“Aerodromi Crne Gore” (Montenegro Airports), a company which controls all airports in Montenegro, announced that the total number of passengers who flew in to Montenegro so far this year (airports in Podgorica and Tivat) is now over 700,000, which is a 14 percent increase compared to the same period last year. They said that the increase is especially visible in July, when the frequency of plane landings increased dramatically, so they think that July is the best month in the history of Montenegro as far as number of passengers per month is concerned.
The total number of passengers who flew in to Podgorica from January 1 to July 31 is 329,647 — with 59,896 from that being in the first three weeks of July! That is over 7,500 passengers more than in July 2011. A bigger increase happened at the airport in Tivat, where the total number of passengers in the same time period is 360,291 — with 127,000 from that being in the first three weeks in July!
The national carrier of Montenegro (Montenegro Airlines) handled around 50,000 passengers, while the rest was handled by foreign air carriers. Nenad Marković, Montenegro Airlines’ PR manager, said that their profits increased by 18 percent compared to last year. He also said that they plan to finish the year with 200,000 passengers handled, which would be a significant result since they ended the last year with 150,000.
