The government has awarded a contract to build a new water treatment facility in Nikšić. The new facility is projected to cost fourteen million Euros and have the capacity to treat 15.5 million liters of water every day. This capacity should provide clean water sufficient for 100,000 people. Nikšić has a current population of 72,443, so this facility may also be able to provide water treatment facilities for nearby towns.
This new project is being financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and is being built by Aqualia, a subsidiary of Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas. Aqualia is currently the fourth-largest water company in the world. This is Aqualia’s first project in the Balkans.
