Netherlands is Giving Green Light to Montenegro

Netherlands will support Montenegro and give the green light to this country, for starting the talks about accession to the European Union. This came as a surprise, because last week, the parliamentary committee had the attitude that it was early for that.

According to what MP Harry van Bommel told “Vijesti”, during a debate, a parliamentary majority agreed to support Montenegro, and gave green lights to opening of talks with this country.

At the next session (that will be held on 7 December), the Dutch parliament will discuss this issue again.

Dusko Markovic, Montenegrin Minister of Justice, met Security and Justice Minister of Netherlands, Ivo Opstelten, on Wednesday.

After the meeting, a release was issued, saying that Netherlands would support Montenegro in its efforts to become a member of the European Union, but to achieve that, Montenegro would have to make more progress.

Towards the end of 2010, the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union was granted to Montenegro.
