On Wednesday, the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers voted unanimously to terminate the post-accession monitoring of Montenegro. This Committee of Ministers vote followed a positive assessment on Montenegro’s progress from the Working Group on Democracy.
The Council of Europe is an international organization of forty-seven European countries. The primary goal of the Council of Europe is to create a common democratic and legal area throughout the whole of Europe, ensuring respect for its fundamental values: human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
The termination of post-accession monitoring is the result of significant reforms which Montenegro has achieved since joining the Council of Europe three years ago. This is yet another small step towards Montenegro taking it’s proper place among the nations of the world.
