Goran Bregović will perform with the Weddings and Funerals Orchestra at the Kanli Kula in Herceg Novi on 10 August at 9:00pm.
The Weddings and Funerals Orchestra is a large ensemble which includes (at various times) a brass band, bagpipes, a string ensemble, traditional Balkan singers, and an all-male choir. The sound is both lively and distinctive — but mostly fun. It is a creative fusion of traditional Balkan music with brass, tango, and popular sounds.
Bregović first achieved fame as lead guitarist and composer for the popular rock group Bijelo Bugme (“White Button”) from 1974 to 1989.
The concert is part of the “Ruska Nagrada” (“Russian Awards”), which this year will commemorate the three hundredth anniversary of Montenegrin-Russian diplomatic relations. 1,500 people are expected to attend the festivities.
Kanli Kuli (“The Bloody Tower”) is an ancient Turkish fort and prison which is now used as a stage for Summer events in Herceg Novi.
